Twice a day FCS-ers come in to clean, feed and socialize our resident cats. FCS shifts are performed twice a day, generally in teams of two. An average shift runs 1 1/2 to 2 hours usually starting around 8 a.m or 5 p.m. FCS volunteers are scheduled one shift per week on the same day each week. Some FCS volunteers are “back up volunteers” that cover open shifts as needed.
Primary Duties:
Clean cagesClean and refill food and water dishesClean and refill litter pans. Complete log for each catSocialize the cats ~ ensure each cat gets some one on one time. Most cats enjoy coming out of their cage for some stretching and interactive play. Others are more comfortable remaining in the cages but enjoy petting and brushing.Complete treatments as needed (eye or ear drops)Stock supplies as needed (food, litter)Sweep and mop floors at end of shift as well as sanitize all other hard surfaces
Adoption Assistants
The Adoption Assistant is responsible for facilitating adoptions in our Adoption Center, while creating a positive experience for prospective adopters.
Primary Duties:
Actively reaching out to and interacting with the general public during adoption hours, specifically talking with prospective adopters to find out what they are looking for in a pet.Interacting with/getting to know the cats and talking with prospective adopters about them in order to make the best possible match.Maintaining a friendly demeanor and providing good customer service while assisting with adoptions.Assisting the Adoption Counselor with paperwork including making copies of the intake forms, recording the adoption on the PetSmart iPad, ensuring adoption folders are complete with appropriate brochures/handouts.Assisting with the cleaning of animal areas and equipment as needed during adoption hours, including spot cleaning of animal areas throughout the day and disinfecting cages after cats have been adopted.Performing other tasks/functions as needed, such as assisting potential adopters with the adoption application and following up on adoptions by phone or e-mail once the animal has been placed in the new home. Timeframe for this position: Saturday or Sunday from 11-4, with a commitment of at least one day each month.
Adoption counselor
The Adoption Counselor is responsible for finding good homes for cats and kittens at the Adoption Center, while creating a positive experience for prospective adopters. Additionally, the Counselor will advise people who are having a problem with their pet or wish to surrender their animal, with the goal of resolving the situation in order to keep the pet in the home.
Primary Duties:
Actively reaching out to, and interacting with, the general public during adoption hours, specifically talking with prospective adopters to find out what they are looking for in a pet.Interacting with/getting to know the cats and talking with prospective adopters about them in order to make the best possible match.Maintaining a friendly demeanor and providing good customer service while assisting with adoptions.Helping potential adopters through the adoption process, sharing information about animal care and behavior, reviewing adoption applications, interviewing applicants in a conversational way, making decisions to finalize or deny an adoption, and communicating with the applicant in such a manner that maintains a courteous and friendly attitude even when declining a request.Following Adoption Checklist to ensure that all paperwork is completed and all records reviewed with adopter.Willingness and ability to learn about cat behavior, common issues, and ways to address them in order to make good adoption matches and to keep animals in homes.Assisting with the cleaning of animal areas and equipment as needed during adoption hours, including spot cleaning of animal areas throughout the day and disinfecting cages after adoptions.Monitoring the health of the animals during adoption hours, and rapidly identifying any health problems or conditions (medical or behavioral) and immediately reporting it to the Feline Coordinator.Following up on adoptions by phone or e-mail once the animal has been placed in the new home and recording information in the cat’s manila file.Performing other tasks/functions as needed, including following up on “In Process” applications if time allows. Timeframe for this position: Saturday or Sunday from 11-4, with a commitment of at least one day each month.
