Our History
Founded in 1995 as Friends of Peabody Animal Rescue and Shelter, PALS Animal Life Savers (PALS) is a no-kill, all-volunteer feline rescue group committed to the well-being of local cats. For nearly 30 years, our mission has been to uphold high standards of animal care while finding loving, permanent homes for stray, abandoned, neglected, abused or surrendered felines. We rescue, foster, feed, clean, socialize and provide medical care for our cats.
PALS now serves communities primarily, but not exclusively north of Boston, from our Adoption Center in the PetSmart store in Salem, Massachusetts where potential adopters can meet the available cats and kittens. Because this is our only facility, we also rely on a network of foster homes and rescuers. As the only all-volunteer shelter in our area dedicated specifically to these local cats we take pride in our unique approach to rescue and adoption. We believe every cat deserves a second chance and we work tirelessly to make that happen.
As a 501© (3) organization, PALS relies solely on the financial support and generosity of individuals, local businesses and PetSmart Charities to help rescue and find homes for approximately 200 cats each year. All of the cats and kittens at our Adoption Center are spay/neutered, micro-chipped, flea-treated, vaccinated as appropriate, and tested for FeLV/FIV.

Join Us in Making a Difference
In addition to rescuing cats, we actively engage with our community by providing educational materials and participating in events that promote awareness about feline welfare. We strive to connect with potential adopters and the general public to ensure that our rescued cats receive the love and care they deserve. Together, we can create a brighter future for these animals. Join us in our mission to save lives and find forever homes!

Jax and Ziva
"We have been so lucky to add not one but two kittens from PALS to our family. We first adopted Jax (formerly Black Jack) to be a little brother to our 5-year-old cat, Max. Adopting him was a breeze. The volunteers at PALS made sure we were a good fit for this little guy. We got to play with him and chat with staff about what we were looking for in a kitten. They knew that Jax would be a good fit, and they were right. He and Max became the cutest little duo.
Two years later, while picking up some new toys for Max and Jax I walked by the PALS window and Ziva (formerly Victoria) just captured my attention. I fell in love with her tiny little legs and wide eyes. I asked the staff if I could meet her. Ziva crawled into my lap and I was hooked. Her addition to the family had brought us so much joy. The three mouseketeers entertain us every day."

Lexi
“I adopted Lexi in Feb 2022 from PALS and it was the BEST decision I ever made in my life!!! When I first met her, she crawled right up on me, and she's been my baby ever since. I remember the day she came home; she jumped out of the carrier and started exploring - like she already knew she owned the place. She then passed out asleep on a pile of clean laundry!
Ever since then she's been my snuggle bug. She loves running around to play, catching her favorite treats mid-air and lots of naps in her favorite spots around the house (luckily one is my lap!)
I can't thanks PALS enough for bringing us together and recommend them to anyone looking to add a cat to their family!'

Olive
“I volunteered to foster for PALS in April/May of 2020. Our first foster was adopted by one of our friends, and they live happily together today! It is nice to hear updates about him and how he thrives in his home. Following his adoption, I was excited to help another cat in need. Sandy reached out to me and noted that a young female cat needed a place to recover from her spaying. Well, one week of recuperation turned into her becoming a forever member of our family. She was five pounds, had a small scratch on her nose, and instantly exited her crate and walked into the bedroom like she owned the place. Fast forward a few months, and she fully integrated with my two male cats, Smokey and Harley, who are littermates. She helped them become more playful again and respected when they wanted the group to relax/rest. We noticed that she prefers men and blonde women (sounds odd, I know), but when you witness it happen, you understand. Fast forward to welcoming our first child, and Olive was ready to be a sister to a human. She was the first cat interested in our son, the only one that allowed him to pet her, and she believed that all his items were purchased for her, as we find her frequently lounging in his crib and enjoying his foam climbing pieces. With her floof and sass, Olive is a presence and force in all the best ways."
